YEEEHAAAWWW…I Got An Award (a New Meme?)

Holy Honolulu Batman…you’ve been awarded another award. Yes I have been awarded another award. And I must say I enjoy them and will proudly display this with honor and gratefulness. This award is called Honest Scrap and Akelamalu, Everything And Nothing awarded this to me. I cannot thank you enough and can’t tell you how honored I am. This was so nice of you and very thoughtful. So a big Mahalo to you my friend.

Of course this comes with some rules so here they are:

“The Honest Scrap award comes with a caveat or 2. Firstly you have to tell your readers 10 things about you they may not know, but that are true. Secondly you have to tag 10 people with the award.”

Without further ado, here are 10 things you might not know about me:

1. When I was growing up the Lawrence Welk show was one of my favorites and because of that I got an accordian for Christmas and took lessons and played it for years.

2. In college, The University of Arizona, my freshman year I got my first F in a course and flunked. The course: Philosophy…they had this theory the Braino Threory that I couldn’t comprehend. It says something like you just think the chair is their…you can’t prove it.

3. I had lasik surgery on my eyes about 7 years ago, for distance and have been able to see great ever since. However, my reading vision, well is crappy but they tell me that comes with age. So I’m trying bi-focal contacts and don’t really care for them.

4. In the middle 80’s I moved to Anchorage Alaska for a few months and the highlight was getting to see the start of the Iditarod. I really enjoyed that but didn’t like the fact that it was dark out for like 20 hours a day.

5. I have real bad hearing and that’s why I talk so loud. My right ear is not real good and never has been. Growing up I had several operations where they would put a tube in their. Then when I was a senior in high school, my ear drum, I think from a water skiing fall, was damaged so I had a new eardrum put in there. They graphed skin from my head and put it in there. I missed out on all the Senior graduation things but oh well. Oh that was in Winnemucca, NV., Albert M. Lowry High School, and at the time I had my step father’s last name, Chamberlain.

6. Also while attending UofA I was a member of Alpha Epsilon Pi, a Jewish Fraternity. I was one of their token non-Jewish members. It was great fun.

7. Around 2002 I had shoulder surgery on my right shoulder. It was on the rotator cuff and they also had to take a part of my hip bone and go through the front of my next and fuse it into the vertabrae in the back of my neck. That helped with the numbness in my right hand but as far as my shoulder it will never be the same again. And when it get’s cold…it’s miserable.

8. I am a smoker and thoroughly enjoy it. I know I should quit but I just figure you gotta go some time so I might as well enjoy myself until then. Marlboro Light 100’s. With the recent price increase because of the taxes on them, I am considering quitting. Yeah right.

9. I have lived in Houston, Texas from the early 80’s until 1986 when I moved to Honolulu. and lived through Hurricane Alicia. My college friends, Bill and Kelley, who are now married and have two wonderful kids, and myself, stayed in my apartment, barbecued bologna and just toughed it out. Was a fun time as I recall.

10. I have never been outside of the United States except for to Mexico. Nogales and Cancun are where I have been. For some reason, I had such a hard time with the currency exchange, that I’ve never desired to go anywhere else.

Now I have to pass this award on. So I’m going to tag the following 10 bloggers. If you don’t want it that is fine, you have to do what you do but if you do, please let me know so that I may read your 10 things about yourself. Or you can just link back to this post. Now a couple Akelamalu has already tagged so I am not going to repeat you.

1. Jientje – Heaven is in Belgium
2. Brenda – Brenda’s Blog from Paraguay
3. Bill – The Old Fart’s Blog
4. Alice – I Was Born2Cree8
5. Barbara – Stray Thoughts
6. Nessa – The Chrysalis Stage
7. Juliana – Scabiosa Trenta
8. Dawn – Twisted Sister
9. Raven – Views from Raven’s Nest
10. Trav – Trav’s Thoughts

So with that. again Akelamalu a big Mahalo to you. I really appreciate this.

Hey, it’s just my opinion

  1. Mahala Thom!
Thanks for the award, it’s the second time around I get this one, but that’s okay. I consider them as a compliment, just like you do, so …
Of course that also means I’ll have to come up with ten random facts about myself, but my life has not been half as eventful and interesting as yours has been it seems! You have not been outside the USA you say, yet you’ve lived in so many different places? Whew!
It’s nice getting to know you a little bit better, thanks for sharing this!
    Mahala, and Aloha Thom.! ;-)

  2. You are most welcome my Belgian Bombshell. I’m sorry I didn’t check it first but oh well…such is life…And my friend. It’s Mahalo. Just a slight little typo :) Night Night and Dank U for stopping by as usual. :)

  3. Congratulations and thank-you!

  4. I have already done this award as well — in fact, I think Jientje tagged me with it. This is really more of a meme than an award. This one I appreciated because it really is about the person it’s being given to.

  5. well, thank you.
you know my opinion about these things but i’ll see what i can do ;)
in any case, don’t expect me following the rules

  6. Thanks for taking up the meme Thom and you found 10 interesting things to tell us! I’m impressed that you can play the accordian, my hubby’s grandmother could play the accordian too. :)

  7. congrats on your award thom…. that is really great !!! you do such a good job here and its just great to read everything every day that is on there.

  8. Congrats on the Award Thom, now we know a “Wee Bit More Aboot Ye” as they would say in Scotland.

Thanks for the nomination, I will try to get this up on my blog in a couple of days, it will take a bit for me to thing of interesting things of myself.

    Cheers

  9. Interesting facts Thom! Thank you and congrats!

  10. Thanks for the award, I’ll get to it in the next couple of weeks, I prepost quite a bit, so I have to put it in line :)

I like that you came clean on the smoking, I’m not a hater, the smell of smoke actually helps my chemo nausea.

I’ve always wanted to do the eye surgery. . .

  11. Barbecued baloney? That explains a lot about you, you know.

  12. I have learned some interesting facts about you. I would love to see Alaska some day. You have lived in a lot of unique places. Congratulations again!

  13. Hey! Thanks for thinking of me on this. I definitely appreciate it.

  14. I’m just catching up with some blog visiting. Thank you for this!

I lived in Houston, too! But only for about two years, 73-75. I guess you could say I still lived there while in college the next five years — my folks did and I went home there for Christmas and summer — but I spent 9 months of the year at college. I do have to say Houston is not one of my favorite places — too big and busy.

I’ve never been outside the US and probably never will be — I don’t travel well. My stomach just revolts at the thought.
