What Color Pen Are You?, Little League World Series and Pass The Butter Please

written by Thom - August 22nd, 2010 at 12:33 pm

Well it’s Monday. I hope you all had a good weekend. :) I don’t know how this is so accurate but it is. If my darlin’ doesn’t get this I will be amazed. Well what am I saying, I think most everyone should be this…LOL

You Are a Green Pen

You are not just a little quirky, you’re downright weird. And you’re proud of being different! You go against the grain just so you won’t fit in. You couldn’t imagine being like everyone else. You are creative and a big wacky. You’ve got a big vision, and it’s changing every week. You are surprisingly charming and popular. You may not be normal in any way, but that’s part of your appeal.

LITTLE LEAGUE WORLD SERIES

The Waipio Little League team played New Jersey in the elimination bracket of the Little League World Series. Waipio came out victorious 3-1. Congratulations Waipio! Keep up the good work. Waipio will take on the loser of the Ohio/Georgia came, Tuesday, August 24th at 4 pm ET on ESPN 3. Good luck Waipio!

NOTE: UPDATED 8/24/10 The game will be played Wednesday because of a rain out of the Ohio/Georgia game

PASS THE BUTTER PLEASE

This is interesting. .. .

Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back.

It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow coloring and sold it to people to use in place of butter. How do you like it?

They have come out with some clever new flavorings

DO YOU KNOW the difference between margarine and butter? Read on to the end…gets very interesting!

Both have the same amount of calories.

Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams; compared to 5 grams for margarine.

Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.

Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.

Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few and only because they are added!

Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavors of other foods.

Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than100 years.

And now for Margarine..

Very High in Trans fatty acids.

Triples risk of coronary heart disease.

Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)

Increases the risk of cancers up to five times.

Lowers quality of breast milk.

Decreases immune response.

Decreases insulin response.

And here’s the most disturbing fact…. HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY INTERESTING!

Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE [?atom?] away from being PLASTIC… and shares 27 ingredients with PAINT.

These facts alone were enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).

You can try this yourself:

Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it open in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will notice a couple of things:

* no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)

* it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value; nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not find a home to grow. Why? Because it is nearly plastic

Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?

Share This With Your Friends…..(If you want to butter them up)!

Chinese Proverb: when someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it, you have a moral obligation to share it with others.

Hey, it’s only my opinion.

  1. Have never been fond of Margarine and now I know more reasons why!! Have a good Monday Thom…and buy butter!

  2. gross….i usually buy butter anyways. way to go hawaii!

  3. I got:

    You Are a Blue Pen
You are friendly, easy going, and very willing to compromise.
You are very open to making new connections, and you are an optimist.

You stay away from drama and chaos. If there isn’t peace, you can’t be happy.
You are sensitive and easily effected by the world around you. You prefer to be near other positive people.

I would argue about butter tasting better. It’s probably just what one is used to, but I never liked the taste.

  4. I had heard some awful things about margarine, but there were some new things in there. I wonder if those things apply to those “lower fat” spreads? When I’ve tried to cook with them, they seem mostly water. Anyway, I went back to butter a long time ago. I either want the real thing or nothing. (Now, I sound like a Coca-Cola commercial. lol)

So, I’m also a Blue Pen, and that sounds right up my alley. Green sounds spot on for you.

    Mwah! xxoo

    • Well I always have liked margarine better and I always think it tastes better as well :) It’s most likely cuz that is what I was raised with except when going to my Grandmother’s house. She always used butter. Yup that fits you :) MWAH xoxox

  5. Congratulations Waipio! Thanks for sharing the facts on margarine. That’s scary! Have a wonderful week :)

    You Are a Black Pen

You are personally conservative and adverse to taking risks. You prefer to do things the conventional way.
Of course you have your own personal flair, but you tend to keep it under wraps. You’re very professional.

You are very concerned about your own image, and you like to be as polished as possible.
You have always been quite mature for your age. You grew up quickly and embraced adulthood early.

  6. Good, happy Monday Thom…I got ‘green pen’ also

I like the part where it states I go out of my way to be different…so many times I do just that! LOL

And…the margarine/vs/butter…gimme butter any time over that nasty crap.

Oh and speaking of the Thursday Themesong…I am really happy to hear that you are enjoying it. And I sure hope it catches on, ’cause it would be a lot of fun seeing how others choose photos to match the lyrics. Can’t wait to see what you’ve come up with this week!!!

  7. Dang…did my comment get lost? Or did I miss that you are moderating? Let me check…just disregard this is that’s the case. LOLOLOL

  8. I’m green too.

And I use butter. I want the real stuff or nothing at all.

  9. I’m a blue pen (no surprise) and a previously convinced butter user. (Olive oil is a close second.) I’m still trying to convince myself that lard is better than shortening when it comes to pie crusts. Eh, no one’s perfect.

We’ve got some Babe Ruth Little League games happening locally. We tried to go watch one last night but the timing didn’t work out. Instead, my husband turned on the TV to watch the games.

  10. Did your quiz results say that you have a big wacky? What kind of blog are you running here, Thom?

  11. I am the exactly same GREEN pen as you!

I have heard this stuff about margarine before — I don’t know if it’s true or not – but I’ve heard it. I tell everyone that butter is better for you – but they don’t believe me! I don’t buy margarine… I just LIKE butter!

Congrats to the Waipio kids! YAY!

  12. What an amazing result !! I am a red pen, hahaha !
    You Are a Red Pen
You have a flair for drama, and you tend to start trouble when things are too quiet.
You feel extremely passionately, and you tend to think that each little problem is a crisis.

You have no trouble speaking your mind, and it’s an understatement to say your opinions are controversial.
You’ve got something to say about everything and everyone – and you don’t hold back!

I have no trouble with butter or magarine, I don’t use them at all, I only use olive oil or sunflower oil.
Being married with an Italian, butter is only used for cooking !

  13. I am also a green pen, oh I lied on Question One, as my kind of writer I’d be wasn’t listed, so to make Susan Happy I said Science Fiction.

Interesting thought on Butter/Margarine. I’ve eaten Margarine all my life, I am wondering if it is too late to switch to butter. The Damage is probably already done.

    • LOL to funny on the quiz. Well my friend, if it isn’t margarine that’s going to kill ya something else will. So I probably will stick with margarine. :) Can’t teach an old dog new tricks :)

  14. ok, first i got blue. but i wasn’t pleased with one answer so i corrected a few (makes no sense, i know) – and i got RED (pffft!). then i went back and corrected only the one answer, and – voila! – i are green (though i never liked margarine):)

  15. I am a black pen. I’m not sure that is accurate, maybe I took the test wrong!

Thats very creepy about margarine. I’m glad I only eat real butter

  16. I’m a green pen, too. Hey, wait! I wanted to be a rainbow pen. Don’t they have any rainbow pens?

  17. I’m also a green pen. How can I be weird and charming at the same time?

I’ve seen this butter thing before. What’s to know? Butter is from cows. Margarine is vegetable oil on toast. :)

  18. It’s so hard when every few years they change their minds about whether margarine or butter is better. We now prefer the taste of butter, but eat margarine in a pinch :/
