CANAL REFLECTION

I’m going to go a little different here today. I’m going to show the color and the black and white. I think this photo does much better in black and white. It’s very busy and of course the lights are just glaring but I like all the reflections in this photo. It is take in front, or the back, depending how you want present it of the Ala Wai Canal. I hope you enjoy.

  1. I like how different things show up in each of the pictures.

  2. Beautiful reflections.

  3. They are both excellent Thom. I think the lights are the real stars of the picture. :)

  4. I love the lights; reminds me of John Travolta, Saturday Night Fever for some reason.

  5. I’m with James on this one – the lights steal the show! You have caught them brillantly -(pun intended)!!! :)
And definitely the B&W is super!

  6. Monovhrome without doubt – and excellent.

  7. I prefer the B&W version! it makes me think of the arrival of some alien vessel!!

  8. That was cool. I always like black and white.

    Detour

  9. The photo in black and white has a whole different feeling, or mood than the color. I tend to prefer black and white, I just think it is more artsy.

  10. I like them both. Great shots

  11. both versions are interesting but B&W adds that little something.
    well done, my friend

  12. The Ali Wai Canal! Just, for half-a-second, I was almost homesick for Hawaii. The canal is a bit of beauty downtown in all those buildings.

  13. Ummmmm… I think I like it in color best. The black & white one ALL.I.SEE. is the glare of the lights. In the color one I do actually see the canal! It’s an interesting photo though…

  14. Tough lighting Thom. I’m not sure which one I like best. I think the B&W version could use a bit more contrast, but you run the risk of losing shadow details. One of the strong points of B&W film is it’s long tonal range. With digital you have to be careful you don’t blow out the highlights. With film you expose for the shadows. You’re coming along nicely. Fun isn’t it!

  15. Thom I do like both as well but the mono is my first choice! Once you start you just can’t stop!!!

  16. Interesting reflection. Happy weekend!!

  17. Nice one Thom.
    Happy weekend.

  18. The lights are looking like stars! IK prefer the first one.

  19. Great shots, I love the lights too, they do look like stars.

  20. usually prefer b/w but this time I like the color better actually. The photo made me think of a stadium for some reason. Both nice photos!

  21. The black and white photo is cool…but as usual I like the color one better!! :)
