Tuesday’s Tales – 7/14/09
Mariposa is hosting a meme called Tuesday’s Tales. You can get more instructions here. Basically she say: Though everyday here in the BLOGosphere is telling tales, I feel it would be nice to once in awhile sit back, enjoy good memories and enjoy it more by sharing those little love tales. After all happy times are best when shared with people!) Mariposa, thanks so much for hosting. You do a great job.
So here’s mine:
I dont’ know if any of you have built a house or been a part of it, but it was an experience that I will never forget. Uncle Biggie, my hanai mom’s husband, passed away in 1998. She was very sad at the time and Henry and I thought, maybe we should rebuild her a house. So we did. After coming up with the plans construction began October 6, 1998. The following is a picutre of the old house, or a portion thereof.
I learned more about building than I ever thought I would. We leased a condo a couple of blocks away for 6 months and that was the length of time that we were told the house would be done. Well me being me, took the lead in this and didn’t let up until the last nail was pounded in, the last bit of concrete poured, the last drywall up, the last cabinet in, the last flooring put in and the furniture delivered. What a remarkable process it is to see the house being built.
We had a couple of parties during the construction at that house:
Some other views:
We have solar on the house and all the goodies that one could think of back in the day. Mom is happy and that was the main thing. It was real exciting and I’m real glad I had the opportunity to do this.
Hey, it’s just my opinion.

What a neat project and labor of love!
Loved your mention of the cards in the bicycle wheels on my childhood memories post. I do remember that! Such fun.
Thank you. That was such a great post Barbara…I loved it. Thanks for the comment
It’s a lovely house, and I can imagine this was SOME project! It looks very different than the brick house we have around here though!
Well you will see it soon enough
Oh wow! What a great gift and labor of love! And look at you younger and with all that great hair. Why do you keep it chopped off?
LOL…because it looks like a brillo pad. The older I get the curlier it becomes. I hate it
What a beautiful post AND beautiful house; she is so lucky to have you all.
Thom, I have spent more money than I care to remember, getting my hair curly. Finally I gave up and it’s hanging here straight. I wonder if we could arrange a hair transplant with each other?
Thank you my friend. You can have this shit. I hate my hair with a passion
LOL
