written by Thom - January 26th, 2010 at 10:01 pm

DO YOU WANT TO VOTE?

As you know I entered a Photo Contest. It’s called January’s Photo Contest: The New Year. Well, yes you are going to see this on every post and yes I know I’m pimping my entry, but oh well. How else am I gonna win? LOL. All kidding aside, if and when you go to the site, please just take a look around. There aren’t very many entries this month and people took time to do this and they are all good and depict the theme very well. So I would appreciate it if you would take the time to go HERE to vote for the one you think should win. Voting is open from January 24 through the 27th. You can only vote once. You have my undying gratitude. Mahalo!!!

Join the fun!

Silly Haiku Wednesday is hosted by Jenn at You know… that Blog?. Mahalo Jenn for hosting.

The basics:

Haiku is simple! It is 3 non-rhyming lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables respectively (a great way to use your fingers!)

Of course this will be a post for a brand new adventure that Dr. John at Dr. John’s Fortress has started. Please click on his blog link or the picture below for further instructions. Mahalo Dr. John for hosting this new adventure. I look forward to it. :)

This week’s word:

scaevity
(noun ) used from 1623 -1658
It means unluckiness

This week’s theme is: CHANGES

Done in an instant.
No
scaevity
involved.
Blink your eyes. Bingo!

  1. Whoa, a two-fer, two games in one haiku! Well done. Dr. John’s a good influence on you.
    ;-)

  2. You are a natural at this! Great haiku and good word usage.

  3. I guess “involved” could have 3 syllables… heehee! Wonder how many people are going to have to look that word up, Thom ;)

    Good one!!

Have a fabulous trip, my friend.

  4. I think you should become a professional author with all of your writing creativity :)

  5. Nice haiku Thom – and clever to get that word in! You’re amazing…but you knew that.

  6. How the hell you managed to work that word into a haiku? Amazing. Just got home from Dr appt and hospital visits so I guess I should do mine!Pretty clever on your part Thom!

    • LOL…this wasn’t easy believe me. Usually the minute I see the word something creeps into my head. But this, when I decided to use the word it too forever it seemed like. :) Hope all is going well at the hospital :)
      xxoxox

  7. Great how you worked in your word – I got the Forgotten English word a day calendar for Christmas because I tend to use some archaic words from time to time – chalk it up to being a voracious reader as a youth and being raised by a man wh o was in his 80′s when I was born!

    Today my word is:
dern – of actions done or proceeding in secret.

  8. LOL! GREAT job! And I can’t count your 2nd line syllables – cuz I don’t know how to pronounce it either. I THINK skay-vit-ee … but don’t hold me to it!

    • Well I put it at 4. Sca-e-vi-ty is how I did it. I searched high and low for the answer to that and I could come up with it. Oh well. It’s a done deal now. Glad you enjoyed :)

  9. whoa! a new word! a great haiku, too!

  10. a haiku with a touch of tiger :)

  11. Thank you for including that definition. I never heard of that word before =)

  12. lost words!?
    i’ve lost my mind…
i think i last saw it in the hardware store
    near the paint scrapers!

  13. I have not seen that word yet. One addition to my vocabulary. HeheheheI thought you mispelled a word.
