Saturday 9 – Sam’s Last Stand of 2009 and Thank You

written by Thom - December 25th, 2009 at 6:01 pm

It’s Saturday 9 time. I would like to send a big Mahalo to

sam+sigof Saturday 9 for hosting this meme. It’s great fun. To read the other participants entries or to participate yourself, click the link just mentioned or the picture above. The rules are simple:

Welcome to Saturday 9. What they’ve committed to their readers is that they will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks they do “random questions,” so-to-speak. They encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because they don’t have any rules, it is your choice. they hate rules. They love memes, however, and here is today’s meme!

Saturday 9 – Sam’s Last Stand of 2009

1. What did you think of 2009? That it was another year on the calendar.

2. What do you think was the news story of the year? Inauguration of Barack Obama as President.

3. What happened this year that you never want to hear another word about? Unless there is no one living on good old planet earth, this is impossible. People talk so never is out of the question.

4. What was your favorite song of 2009? One that played on the radio most likely.

5. What did you accomplish this year? More grey hair.

6. Did you learn anything new this year? Everyday.

7. What are you looking forward to in the new year? That there is no reverse?.

8. What are your plans for New Year’s Eve? Work!

9. What’s the best thing you ever did on a New Year’s Eve? Went to Disneyland.

Saturday: 9, “Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!” Enjoy your weekend!

I want to say a big thank you to Matt Mullenweg, the founding developer of WordPress. I also would like to apologize for my terse words I left on his blog the other week. You see, WordPress recently updated to version 2.9 and it caused a lot of problems. The biggest one I had was my scheduled posts. It didn’t post them and it said it missed the post time. I was furious to say the least, because I have so many posts that I scheduled and they all had to be redone. Especially the one’s with pictures. Anyway, I went to look for plug-ins and such to fix this and most of it is way over my head. So I just decided that this was going to be the way of life until they fixed it. Well then I get an email from Matt announcing the release of 2.9. He was saying how good it was…blah blah blah. That made me even more furious, so I came home from work and left this on his blog, at the suggestion of Quilly, because I responded to the email that he sent out first. Quilly said that I might have better luck if I posted on his blog:

I don’t know where else to put this. But I received your email about 2.9…IT SUCKS!!! WordPress should be ashamed. If you have a scheduled blog post it ALWAYS says it missed it. I had two with a lot of photos and I had to redo the entire posts. Just makes me furious that things aren’t tested better. And if you use Feedburner, all of a sudden I’m getting tons of errors with it and then the corrections. It’s just horrible this release. I’m not the only one this is happening to. It needs to be fixed. WordPress should be ashamed.

To make a long story short, he invited me and sent me the link, for the plugin, to be a beta tester for Word Press 2.9.1 beta and it works like a charm. At least what I need it to do. So anyway, I just wanted to say Mahalo to Matt for putting up with me. I’ve always been one to speak my mind and sometimes you get good results like this. I was a little harsh I’m sure of it, but that’s just me. Matt was very cordial in his response and handled the whole situation very well. I’m impressed to say the least and very grateful.

Hey, it’s only my opinion.

A Hui Hou

  1. Nothing like computer frustration! I’m just glad it got you some good results! Hope you’ve had a great Christmas! Now on to New Years!!
But in the meantime, enjoy your weekend, Thom!

    Sylvia

  2. When I told you to leave a comment on his blog, I also told you he was a good guy. I didn’t tell you to rip his head off and shout down his throat!

But I am glad you got results!

    • I didn’t say you told me to say that. This was all me. Funny how we read things differently on a post LOL. And yes I know you told me about him and I should have put that in there…Oooops!!! A Thousand Pardons :

  3. We’ve never been to Disneyland but I hope we can go one day. I bet it’s a riot on New Year’s Eve.

  4. happy day after Xmas! YAY you went to Disney for NYE, bet it was coolness :)

  5. Awww… Cj pointed at the fireworks on top of Disneyland and said, “Mommy, look!” I better get serious with my promise. That radio looks like my bread toaster lol!…

  6. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas, and here’s wishing you a great New Year!

  7. You’re working on New Year’s Eve???

Glad you got your WordPress problems sorted.

  8. Wow. I heard those songs on the radio, too. Small world, heh? Hope your holiday went great…

  9. Hi Thom, I am sending you warm holiday greetings! Sorry, not to be on line lately, I have very sick, and after all the antibiotic, I am feeling better now.
I feel the same way, frustrations in our blog format. I am glad everything worked out for you.
Enjoy the rest of the holidays, and wishing you the best of the new year!
P.S. I do not work on NYE, hehehehe!

  10. More grey hair- priceless! LOL

    Have a great day. :)

  11. Well… thank goodness ONE of you was cordial! You got results … but goodness me! Okay… we all do stuff like that! But we shouldn’t… I’m proud of you for telling us what a GOOD guy he is!

BUT… I just came from Gattina’s blog… are you tellin’ me that you keep your television on ALL. THE. TIME. … but that you mute it when you’re not watching!? I told Dennis I found somebody that was worse about tv than HE is!!! LOL!

    • Mahalo my friend. Sometimes I just speak before thinking…well a lot of times. I’m very thankful to his solution. Ummm regarding TV…yes, it’s on ALL the time mostly. And when I mute it is when the same crap gets said over and over again…I don’t keep it on mute very long..but long enough LOL

  12. That must’ve been so cool to be at Disneyland on New Year’s Eve!

Hope you had a great christmas! I bet you’re glad it’s over =)

  13. Well, you’re certainly more upbeat about it than I am. If I do this I’ll probably piss and moan a lot. One thing that I would like to never hear about again is Jon and Kate. But there is no way I can be that lucky.

  14. That’s pretty cool about the WordPress dude, and just as cool that you took it up with him. In your place, I’d have told everyone I knew that the upgrade sucked and never have addressed the issue with anyone who could have done anything about it. Good deal. And good advice, Quilly.

    • Well I wouldn’t have if I didn’t get the email from him. The update came a couple weeks earlier and I just put up with it. Then when I got the email…that’s when I did this. I’m glad I did :)

  15. Hope you had a great Christmas – I’M not ready to think about New Years yet.

Sometimes the squeeky wheel gets the oil!

  16. sigh… i wish 2009 never happened!

nice of you to give credit where credit is due, even if only after getting mad at things… glad the beta version works for you

  17. Been to Disneyland this year too but in Hongkong:) Don’t worry, I have more grey hairs too, got me surprised.

I want to thank you for coming to my blogs and leaving comments. Really appreciate it!

Merry Christmas and a happy new year!!

    • I think any Disneyland is fun and yeah…those grey hairs..oh well. LOL Happy Holidays to you as well and you are welcome I enjoy your blog :)

  18. I had a similar issue with iGoogle turning to crap after an ‘improvement’ and when I complained, I got help quickly too. Hurray for customer service!

    But I’m still on Blogger.
    :-P

Have fun on New Year’s Eve — I hope nobody throws up on your bus or sets off firecrackers under it. I never liked working in public service on a holiday!
