Help for Haiti

written by Thom - January 14th, 2010 at 8:44 am

What a horrific event that has happened in Haiti. My thoughts are with all the people down there. May all those who lost their lives because of the earthquake Rest In Peace. Yesterday when I opened my email I had this waiting. WOW I thought. I wonder who else got this.

The White House, Washington

Good Afternoon,

The reports and images from Haiti of collapsed hospitals, crumbled homes, and men and women carrying their injured neighbors through the streets are truly heart-wrenching. As we learn more about the extent of the devastation, our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Haiti and Haitian Americans around our country who do not yet know the fate of their families and loved ones back home.

I have directed my Administration to respond with a swift, coordinated and aggressive effort to save lives. The people of Haiti will have the full support of the United States Government in the urgent effort to rescue those trapped beneath the rubble and to deliver the humanitarian relief — the food, water and medicine — that Haitians will need in the coming days.

This is also a time when we are reminded of the common humanity that we all share, and Americans have always responded to these situations with generosity of spirit. If you would like to support the urgent humanitarian effort in Haiti, I encourage you to visit our website where you can learn more about how to contribute:

http://www.WhiteHouse.gov/HaitiEarthquake

Americans trying to locate family members in Haiti are encouraged to contact the State Department at (888) 407-4747.

We will continue to stand with the people of Haiti and keep them in our thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

Barack Obama

So I did some snooping around and found a great way to donate to the relief effort. All you have to do is text the word HAITI to 90999 and $10.00 will be charged to your cell phone. You can see more ways by clicking here or by visiting American Red Cross.

Hey, it’s only my opinion.

  7. Mr. President must not love me! I got no mail from him. But I found Compassion International to make my donation. I think that cell phone thing is a FABULOUS idea! Beth Moore had it posted on her blog yesterday – and her blog gets 10,000 viewers a DAY! (can you imagine?) I hope EVERY ONE of them donated at least once!

    • 10,000 viewers a day. WOW!!! She must be something else. I don’t know how he got this. Luck of the draw? Yes, let’s hope there are plenty of donations :)

  8. Thanks for the info, Thom! I do so hurt for the people of Haiti!

  15. Thom, it is sad about Haiti, and I am glad there is unity among countries to give the aid. Thanks for this information.

P.S. I did not post the accident. This guy run a red light while I was almost in the middle of the intersection. I am fine and the car is back now. Thanks for the concern.

  16. I didn’t get the e-mail. You must be privileged. :)

Thanks for spreading the word about donating. The Red Cross is a well-known trusted organization with a lot of experience in disaster relief. I heard about giving by texting on the radio yesterday, too.

    • Well as I said, I’m probably on some watch list now LOL. Glad you enjoyed. It amazes me how people come together in a time of crisis. :)

  17. You got an email from Barack Obama? I wish more people would say that when you sent that text, your cell phone bill gets charged. Most people seem to be forgetting that part. I need to find a place to donate to help out. :/

    • LOL..yup and now I’m on a watch list I bet. I did say that your cell phone gets charged. But for this the text message fee isn’t charged. I heard that on the news today :) Only the $10.00 that you donate :)
