Today my Grandfather would have been 95. Happy Birthday GF. What a man he was. He passed away May 14, 2001. One of the saddest days of my life. I think when they defined the word gentleman they had him in mind. He was the kindest, gentlest and courteous man that I ever knew. He spoiled us rotten and was there for anything we needed. He is someone that I have always tried to pattern my life after and follow in those huge footsteps. I haven’t done near as well as he did but I tried and keep trying to this very day. Thank you GF for giving your all to not only me but our entire family. I love you dearly.

What a fantastic tribute to your role model and grandfather. Golly tho, Thom, this makes me feel ancient tho…my MOTHER would have been 99 this coming July. We’re a whole generation apart you and I…just how on earth do we come up with same thoughts.
Anyway…hope your GF birthday memories of such a great man will be good for you today.

I have to agree though – while I haven’t known Thom very long, he does seem like a very good man, and someone a grandfather would be very proud to lay claim to.
Thom, I felt the same way about my grandfather. My 98 year old grandmother who lays in hospital now was his wife, and when we lost him in 1985 my world changed. I named my surprise daughter (Wee One) after him (her middle name is “Jack”lyn in his honor)

This is a very warm and loving tribute to your wonderful Grandfather. You can see how he holds you and looks at you that he was proud of you from the very beginning.
You’ve left me some wonderful comments these past couple of days about my Dad. Wherever your Grandfather and my Dad are I hope they are together today celebrating their birthday and looking down on us and being very proud.

What great memories. My GF passed away in 2000 and would have been 100 last fall. When they say they were the greatest generation, it was the selflessness that marked many of them, even those who never served in the military.
