HAPPY 4TH OF JULY

I hope everyone has a wonderful, safe and fun filled 4th of July. Happy Birthday to the United States of America.

Yankee Doodle

It’s Saturday 9 time. I would like to send a big Mahalo to
sam+sig
of Saturday 9 for hosting this meme. It’s great fun. To read the other participants entries or to participate yourself, click the link just mentioned or the picture above. The rules are simple:

Welcome to Saturday 9. What we’ve committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do “random questions,” so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don’t have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today’s meme!

Saturday 9 – Yankee Doodle Dandy

1. What is your favorite 4th of July memory? (If you aren’t in the U.S., then use your own national holiday.) 1976 Bicentennial and those sailing ships.

2. Do you consider yourself patriotic? Well who wouldn’t? An idiot or a terrorist I suppose.

3. Do you like fireworks? Yup. They are magical.

4. What are your plans for this weekend? BBQ and fireworks at Maunalua BAY.

5. Are you optimistic about the future? I should hope to shout I am.

6. Do you think everyone should serve in the military? Nope.

7. Would you support a constitutional ban on flag burning? HELL NO. People that do that should be sent to prison and the key thrown away.

8. What end of the political spectrum are you? I plead the 5th. I can be some ways on some issues and another way on others.

9. Where do you get your news? CNN.

Susan at Stony River Farm daughter’s birthday is today. She is 19 WOOT!!! Direct from her “No More Wire Hangers” mother comes this:

“Yep, 4th of July, her name is Devyn and she’s cute, artsy, single (yes I’m in the market for a nice son-in-law!) This year’s cake is chocolate fudge with Bailey’s creme caramel icing, and we’re having champagne with it. (Drinking age here is 18) What other details, or is that enough? LOL”

So I’d like to wish Devyn a very Happy 19th Birthday.

PS: This was the event mentioned in yesterday’s post that would be revealed.

Hey, it’s only my opinion.

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE 7/4/09 07:40 am

Okay I made a mistake and didn’t realize it until I got to Harriet’s blog, I am Harriet this morning. I was reading her Saturday 9 and when it came to question 7 I thought…wait I answered this No. Big Mistake. So my answer is HELL YES. I read it wrong yesterday when I was doing it and didn’t catch it until today. Sorry about that. And Lani at OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD caught it with the second comment. Thank you. And by the way, you beat Melli at Insanity Prevails to the punch. I know she would have caught that. So this stands corrected as of Carletta’s Comment. Aloha and thanks for putting up with me on this.

  2. Hi
The question was Would you support a constitutional ban on flag burning…I took that to mean would I be against flag burning! Is that right or did I misunderstand???
I am not really unpatriotic…I am just not gushing with it…
Oh I just wasn’t too serious on this …tried to be fun…I was a little pissed to tell you the truth.. Its AFTER 11pm ON JULY 3RD AND IT SOUNDED LIKE A WAR ZONE IN THE neighborhood…. realy gets my poor old dog upset too! :-)
what do you mean you tagged me?

    • Okay, I amended my post. You can get the information in the post. Thanks for having such good eyes on this. I felt stupid about this LOL. Too funny about your patriotic answer. I understand why now. By Tagging, I’ve mentioned you in a post and have given you either and award or in this case, it’s a project that is going on. You can go HERE to see the tag. It’s right after the quiz. Happy 4th to you. Aloha

      • OK MR Thom…what r u doing to me??
I don’t understand.what award and what am I supposed to do… I have a headache. Fireworks are still going off but my headache is more about sitting here way too long and eating too rich today!
I get major migraines and reading too much can bring them on. I have had my quota of reading this afternon…so please explain what the heck i am supposed to do and I’ll read it later tonight…OK??
NOw next time you give me an award….attach money (lots) and make sure I don’t have to do any thing in return..OK???? LOL

        L
thanks for the comment about my pic.. I made that in paintshop
a year or so ago. It is me….with some odd coloring brought in.. I do enjoy doing that stuff.!

        • Do you accept puka shells as money? LOL You must have a headache. The instructions for what you need to do are in the post right underneath the We Are The World picture. If you want more detailed instructions click that picture to go to the hosting blog. You can participate or not. :)

  3. ROFL I sound like Psycho Mom in that e-mail, but well if the shoe fits I’ll wear it. LOL You asked for details, those were what came to mind first!

A BBQ and fireworks at Maunalua Bay–Thom, you’re living the dream. Hope I can do the same one day. Hmmmm… a *Hawaiian* son-in-law could help make that happen… know anyone nice and nineteen? lol

    • LOL…well as you know I’m going to be on the look out to find someone that is just like me :) And when he grows up…watch out…Opps…grow up…what was I thinking. LOL Love the mom analogy :) Happy 4th to you and your family. :)

      • Just like you, that would be PERFECT. I will buy him a boat and fishing gear and plenty of Budweiser… and go buy a larger spoon.

LOVE your update—but your sentiments came through perfectly clear though you’d mixed up the yes/no. I can raise/lower/fold an American flag properly thanks to my Dad (not easy when you’re seven years old and your Dad’s flag is a canvas 8-footer!) LOL

  4. Happy 4th of July Thom, enjoy your day.

Happy Birthday to Susan’s Daughter, kind of you to remember her in your post.

Your answers were thought provoking, I agree anyone who burns a flag should be punished.

    “Have Bus Wench Will Travel”

    • Thank you Bill. I’m glad you agree with that flag burning. Thanks for the great comment. Aloha :) You have a happy 4th as well :)

  5. Happy birthday to Susan’s daughter!!!
Happy fourth of July, like Susan says, that BBQ with fireworks at Maunalua Bay looks like an awesome event, wish I could be there. You’re living the dream.

We’re the rain people, Susan and I. Hmmm.
    Have a great weekend Thom!!

    • LOL…I can agree with that. Thanks for the wonderful comment. Very much appreciated. You have a great weekend yourself :) Happy 4th to you and your family :)

  6. Fireworks are pretty cool to watch.
The Bicentennial was pretty awesome too.
    Happy 4th

  7. I’m so confused…where did the thing about burning the flag come from?? We were in the pool most of the afternoon and then my internet provider crashed. I don’t think there should be a constitutional ammendment about flag burning. There has been too much messing with the Constitution as it is. Laws at a local level should suffice to handle the idiots. Maybe, they could be asked to leave our country and live somewhere else where they might like another flag and see how much freedom they get with another set of laws.

Happy birthday, Devyn. Nineteen is a very good age. I wish you many more!

    Happy Birthday, America.

    • WEll If there was I would support it. You make a real good valid point about it. Thanks for the great comment. Happy 4th of July to you and your family. Aloha

  8. Have a fun and fantastic 4th :)

  9. I was there to see those tall ships sail by NYC back in ‘76. Very impressive indeed. My own favorite Fourth of July memories though are all the years we spent with dear friends at their lake house, swimming, boating, eating, and generally enjoying the simple pleasures of life.

Happy 4th Thom. I hope it was a good one over there in Hawaii.

    • I bet you it was fantastic to see that. Thanks for the comment and a happy 4th to you and your family. Aloha :)

  10. Happy 4th!! enjoy that wonderful event at the bay, it sounds fantastic,..ahhhh….
Still have to catch up on your posts, you are so productive! 8)

    • LOL…I had a lot of free time last week and had them all done before the weekend was out LOL. Well most of them, anyway. Have a happy 4th do you and your family as well. Aloha :)

  11. For us it’s a normal saturday here, hot ! (for once) Our national day is on July 21th, with lots of events and official festivities, but people are generally not very patriotic. In fact they would be angry if national day would fall on a saturday or sunday, lol. It’s just another day off. I have been twice in the States at this moment and we had a barbecue with my aunt and uncle in Madison. And watched a firework too of course !

    • LOL…well when it does, like this year, here, they make the friday before the holiday. So it’s a win/win. Glad you got to experience it. Have a great 4th. Aloha my friend.

  12. Great graphics Tom!
Have a wonderful and safe celebration at the bay!

  13. Happy Independence Day, Thom! I hope you have a wonderful and safe celebration.

  14. Thanks Thom and Happy 4th of July to you as well !!!
    :)

  15. One of my absolute favorite songs Ever!Love the post all the way around.

    • It is mine as well. Thanks for the wonderful comment. You and your family have a wonderful 4th as well. Aloha :)

  16. Happy July 4th Thom!

  17. Hmmm, #7 — I should have gotten here sooner because I would have told you that what you said wasn’t what you meant, either.

Here is an interesting observation on flag burning. We are supposed to burn the flag, as a sign of respect, when it becomes old and thread bare and faded. Throwing it away is considered disrespectful. So how did burning the flad evolve into protest?

    • I was so embarrassed by this that I just wanted to get the update done. And I just picked on Melli cuz she has told me before, several times LOL. I know you would have picked up on that as well. I should have you proof everything before I post LOL. Good point on your comment about the flag. If you ever figure it out, lemme know. Happy 4th to you and OC Q. And to your families. Aloha :)

  18. Well we agree on almost everything except I say if somebody is stupid enough to burn a flag let um. Getting angry only rewards them.

    • Well good point Dr. John. I didn’t think of that. Thanks for stopping by. Much appreciated. Aloha :)

  19. Happy 4th to you! I guess I misread the question, too — somehow I knew what you meant. :-)

    • LOL…it was so funny Barbara. The minute I read that on Harriets, at what caught my eye was her response I thought what? Oh well, happens to the best of us I suppose. Happy 4th of July. Aloha

  20. I agree on your #8 answer. I don’t understand how people can agree with everything from a certain party.

  21. Man you’ve been busy the last few days! LOL!

Just wanted to say a quick Happy 4th to you before I start catching up with the rest of your posts for the week.

  22. Happy 4th of July.

  23. ROFLMBO! I soooooooo DID catch it! The minute I read it I went HUH? So, I’m glad you corrected it! :) I would have done this one too — I guess it’s a little late now though… I was too busy to play much (on-line) yesterday!

Hope you did INDEED have a good one!

    • That I did have a good one and I knew you would catch it. Beat ya too the punch LOL. I’m going to post in Tuesday Tale’s about it. Aloha

  24. In Malta we have 2 holidays OIndependence and Republic….however its no big deal to us. The state does some activities but us citizens is just another holiday from the ones we have….I wonder why

  25. Happy Belated 4th of July!!!

Hope you had a great one, buddy!

James Cagney was one of my all-time favorites and Yankee Doodle Dandy was the best!

  26. Hope you had a blast this 4th of July weekend. :) Cheers!!!
