In downtown Honolulu, fronting the old Judiciary Building, is one of our biggest tourist attractions. It’s the KING KAMEHAMEHA STATUE. You can click that link and find out more about it. It’s a beautiful sight and I thought I would share it this week. I hope you enjoy.

I found this picture in my archives and wanted to share it with you this week. It’s a photo of Downtown Honolulu taken from the Chinese Cemetery in Manoa Valley. It was a hazy day that day but you get a good view of downtown. Waikiki, just for your information, would be farther down to the left of the photo. I have also put one in as Black and White. I like it even better. I hope you enjoy.

This week I decided to try a black and white photo. This is on the boat on the way to the Arizona Memorial. It was one of the last things I had the pleasure to do with Quilly and Charley before their move to Friday Harbor. I like this photo and you are looking back towards the Visitors Center and seeing the Ko’olau Mountain Range. I hope you enjoy.

Last week I walked outside to get the newspapers and I looked out in the yard and saw this rainbow. It’s hard for me to capture the whole thing but I wanted to share it with you. They are just fascinating to me. The second shot, which I took first, my camera was set differently but I kept this photo as it makes the rainbow brighter. I hope you enjoy

Okay. I know this says Sunday and I’m posting it on Saturday but so does everyone else so that’s why it’s posted. I know I keep posting things from my Seattle trip but I can’t help it. The spectacular scenery up there is just amazing to me. This week I have decided to show you the sunset over Puget Sound from my Sister-In-Law and Brothers house, a truly amazing view of water going to Friday Harbor and the seagull’s following the ferry. If you look close and make the second to the last seagull picture big you can see some food that the kids tossed in the air for the seagulls. I hope you enjoy these.

As you know I just returned from Seattle earlier this week. The first day up there we decided to go to Friday Harbor and see Quilly and Charley. We had to catch a Ferry from Anacortes to Friday Harbor which is about and 1 1/2 hours from where my family lives. So we boarded the Ferry and had a great sail over to Friday Harbor. Once there, I got to see where Quilly and Charley are staying temporarily, where Charley work’s and then went and had dinner at Herb’s Tavern. Now you can see Quilly’s new attire for the cold weather up there. It was a quick trip but it was so good to see both of them and where their new home is. In addition on Sunday we went and met Sylvia and had lunch with her at Ray’s Boathouse. She’s a hoot. Believe me what you read on her blog is exactly how she is. Funny, witty, smart and just fun to be around. I’m real glad I got to meet her. I have put some photos here but the rest are on the slide show below and on my Flickr Account. NOTE: If the music drives you nuts on the slide show click on the speaker in the upper left hand side of the slide show to turn it off.

A while back, Doug at Waking Ambrose mentioned something about the buses here in Honolulu. I can’t remember the comment exactly but I think it had something to do with the color of them. Well it’s taken me some time mostly because of my scaevity with time, I don’t know where it always goes, but I thought for this Scenic Sunday I would show the different buses we have at work. Not very scenic to many I’m sure, but when it’s been your work for 20 years, which by the way I just made 20 years with my company on January 24, 2010, YAHOO…pffft, I thought I would share. Last Saturday as you know Quilly, Charley and I went on our Duck Tour. The highlight was going in the Bowfin Submarine. When you go there, you get a head set and can do the tour at your own pace. It’s great. Inside I was amazed at how cramped it was and how much is inside. The crew sleeps in shifts, called hot bunking as there is not enough beds to have them have there own. They sleep over the torpedos and just anywhere they bunks are. The port holes are so small that I can’t imagine when there is an emergency someone not banging their head. Being tall in a submarine is a real disadvantage. One thing I was shocked about is the engines are made by General Electric. It also produces 64,000 Horse Power. They of course have a small galley and the kitchen the cooks cook round the clock. It was an amazing tour and I really enjoyed it. You will see photos of the entire submarine below.
