Are You Cake or Pie?, Admission Day and The Queen

written by Thom - August 19th, 2010 at 9:45 am

Well it’s Friday. I hope you have a good weekend. Me subtle? pffft

You Are Pie

You are sweet, but there’s more to the story than that. You’re quite complicated. Sometimes people don’t appreciate you as much as they should. You are really quite special. You are deep, thoughtful, and get better with time. You are subtle but powerful. You are very traditional, and that’s a good thing. You remind people of simpler and happier times.

ADMISSIONS DAY

On August 21, 1959, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed a proclamation making Hawai’i the 50th state of the United States of America. Hawai’i Admission Day is celebrated on the third Friday of August every year. Yes it is a State, City and County Holiday here. I sincerely hope that all residents of Hawai’i take a moment to think about our State, the wonderful contributions it makes world wide and what a great place it is to call Home. Happy Admission Day Hawai’i.

THE QUEEN

Do not get many like this: good historical pics. Enjoy!

I was a little shocked by the pictures. When it penetrated my brain how long she’s been around. She gives new meaning to the phrase “Long Live the Queen” How old does this one make you feel?

I don’t know about you, but I went OMG somewhere between Eisenhower and Truman.

( P.S. After looking at this I am shocked at how long I’ve been around, too…)

Hey, it’s only my opinion.

  1. Long live the Queen indeed! Yikes. I hope she lives a lot longer. I’m not excited about her son…
Happy Admission day to your lovely state!

  2. I got Cake:

    You Are Cake
You are sweet – at times overly so. You can be a bit overwhelming.
You’re always ready to party, and you’re usually one of the last ones to leave an event.

You are there for your friends in the best and worst of times. You make anyone’s day.
You are soothing, excepting, and totally comforting. No wonder so many people love you.

I think this one’s off — I am not a party person and usually go home from most events early. I hope the last paragraph is true of me, though I think they meant accepting rather than excepting — though there are some things I except as well. :-)

Happy Admission Day! (When I saw the title of your blog post before clicking over, I thought, “Oh, no, what in the world is he admitting?!” LOL!)

Wow, the queen has been around a very long time! Good for her! And for England, I think.

    • The whole first paragraph is bunk LOL The rest yup is you. Nope, not admitting anything today for a change LOL Well I think the Queen should step down. It’s time to let someone else be at the helm I think :)

  3. I am pie! Pumpkin please!
I’ll have to say the queen has aged much more gracefully than the men. My Dear Thom I don’t think we have to worry about Charles being King. I don’t think after this long Mamma wants him there either. :)

God Bless The …. State of Hawaii!
WHAT? You didn’t think I was going to say Queen did you?

  4. Ha, Thom. Seriously, Truman?

And you’re right, the fact that I was around for all the Presidents back to LBJ makes the creaking joints creak a little louder.

  5. I am also a Pie. Finally this silly thing got something right about me. ;)

You’ve been around about as Long as Hawaii has been a State. Congrats to both of you Old Farts. :)

The Queen does look good for Eighty Four.

    • Oh, you missed a President. Where’s LBJ ??? I can remember seeing the Speech with Reagan on TV and he laughing his Ass off at something the Queen said.

      • ACK…you are right. I didn’t even see that. I hope I didn’t forget it. And after doing some research: Queen Elizabeth II with Lyndon B Johnson….These two never met…find out why!. WOOT!!! Indeed that is you and thanks for including me in the Old Farts Club LOL

  6. Whoa! she was already Queen Elizabeth when I was in pig tails playing London Bridge with playmates and reciting “pussy cat, where have you been? I’ve been to London to visit the queen….”

Loled at your P.S. Thom :D

  7. I like your outer crust. Delish!

Wow. Those Queen pictures sure are amazing.

  8. the queen sure is a tough old lady :)

  9. I really enjoyed the photo essay of the queen with our presidents, those pictures really do tell a story.

    I am pie :)

  10. Wow, that is just amazing! I brought my mom over to show her…and she couldn’t even name them all! I demand labels ;)
