What’s Your Shopping Stereotype?, An Actual Craig’s List Personals Ad and $7,000 from Hershey’s

written by Thom - April 4th, 2010 at 1:43 pm

Well it’s Monday. I hope you had a great weekend. I hate shopping and most of this is true except for the taking my time part. In and out I say.

Your Shopping Stereotype is Balanced

Unlike most people, you don’t really obsess over shopping. It’s a chore, just like any other.
You crave a simple, stress free experience when you go shopping. Convenience is very important to you.

You tend to know what you want, and you’re willing to pay to get it quickly. You probably enjoy shopping online.
You enjoy taking time to pick out what you want, but once you’re ready to buy, you don’t want to drag out the process.

AN ACTUAL CRAIG’S LIST PERSONALS AD

To the Guy Who Tried to Mug Me in Downtown Savannah night before last.
Date: 2009-05-27, 1 :43 a.m. E.S.T.

I was the guy wearing the black Burberry jacket that you demanded that I hand over, shortly after you pulled the knife on me and my girlfriend, threatening our lives. You also asked for my girlfriend’s purse and earrings. I can only hope that you somehow come across this rather important message. First, I’d like to apologize for your embarrassment; I didn’t expect you to actually crap in your pants when I drew my pistol after you took my jacket.. The evening was not that cold, and I was wearing the jacket for a reason.. My girlfriend had just bought me that Kimber Model 1911 .45 ACP pistol for my birthday, and we had picked up a shoulder holster for it that very evening. Obviously you agree that it is a very intimidating weapon when pointed at your head .. isn’t it? I know it probably wasn’t fun walking back to wherever you’d come from with that brown sludge in your pants. I’m sure it was even worse walking bare-footed since I made you leave your shoes, cell phone, and wallet with me. [That prevented you from calling or running to your buddies to come help mug us again]. After I called your mother or “Momma” as you had her listed in your cell, I explained the entire episode of what you’d done. Then I went and filled up my gas tank as well as those of four other people in the gas station, — on your credit card. The guy with the big motor home took 150 gallons and was extremely grateful! I gave your shoes to a homeless guy outside Vinnie Van Go Go’s, along with all the cash in your wallet. [That made his day!] I then threw your wallet into the big pink “pimp mobile” that was parked at the curb … after I broke the windshield and side window and keyed the entire driver’s side of the car. Later, I called a bunch of phone sex numbers from your cell phone. Ma Bell just now shut down the line, although I only used the phone for a little over a day now, so what ‘s going on with that? Earlier, I managed to get in two threatening phone calls to the DA’s office and one to the FBI, while mentioning President Obama as my possible target. The FBI guy seemed really intense and we had a nice long chat (I guess while he traced your number etc.). In a way, perhaps I should apologize for not killing you … but I feel this type of retribution is a far more appropriate punishment for your threatened crime. I wish you well as you try to sort through some of these rather immediate pressing issues, and can only hope that you have the opportunity to reflect upon, and perhaps reconsider, the career path you’ve chosen to pursue in life. Remember, next time you might not be so lucky. Have a good day!

Thoughtfully yours,

Alex

$7,000 FROM HERSHEY’S

The HERSHEY’S Better Basket Blog Hop donated $7,000 to the Children’s Miracle Network. Direct from their blog comes the following:

“Better Basket Blog Hop started as a charity blog meme, bloggers were able to raise $10 by writing a blog post of donating a virtual Easter Basket. HERSHEY’S promised to donate $10 per each post written for the Children’s Miracle Network, up to $5,000. Within the first week, over 200 bloggers participated, and soon it was 400 bloggers, and HERSHEY’S was so impressed by the kindness and caring of the hundreds of bloggers participating that they decided to donate $7,000 in honor of all the caring bloggers who are part of spreading the word of paying it forward this Easter season.”

WOOT I think that is tremendous and every blogger that participated deserves a multitude of thanks and so does Hershey’s for adding the additonal $2,000. Well done everybody and Congratulations.

Hey, it’s only my opinion.

  1. I love that letter! Hysterical. What a wonderful revenge.

  2. Now that’s a guy who knows how to get even as opposed to mad!

  3. Revenge…a sweet, sweet word if you want my opinion!! LOL

Now, tell me….you are a balanced shopper? How on earth?!!! I’ll be doing this quiz in a bit. I’m leery, of course.

    And Way To Go Hershey’s!!!!

    • It tells me I’m a ‘unique’ shopper?!! What the heck does that mean?

      Your Shopping Stereotype is Unique

It’s hard to stereotype you, because you simply buy what you like. You are a true individual.
Sometimes you go high end. Sometimes you go low end. But you almost never go with the crowd.

You don’t settle until you find the perfect item. Shopping is one of the ways that you express yourself.
You’re proud of what you own, and if you change your mind about something, you immediately get rid of it.

  4. dealing with bullies in that way deserves rounds of applause!

oh, and i got balanced, too, which is accurate enough

  5. that letter is brilliant! it made my day, Thom:D

congrats to you and all the bloggers who participated in hershey’s easter blog hop. so sorry i missed that. it has been crazy here and i lost track of the time (and date). this will go on for another week, i think.

    happy easter, friend! :)

    • I’m glad it did. It was too funny. Yeah that was a good blog hop to participate in. :) Hope you had a happy easter as well. I hope things calm down for ya real soon :)

  6. Huh. I’ve never been accused of being balanced before ;)

That letter was (I’m sure) contrived but a good read nonetheless!

  7. Since I absolutely hate shopping, I was surprised to find out that I am…

    Your Shopping Stereotype is Traditional

You tend to be a very down to earth shopper. You go for function and quality.
Price matters to you, but you also want to get the most bang for your buck. You never buy junk.

If you find a brand or store you like, you tend to stick with it over the years. You are a loyal shopper.
You don’t buy the latest thing right away. You prefer to purchase things that have stood the test of time.

I really thought YOURS was a much better description of me!!!

That letter is PRICELESS! Almost makes me wanna get mugged! Oh yea… I don’t have a gun… SHOOT!

YAAAAAY for the Blog Hop!!! How cool!

    • I absolutely hate it as well. :) Mine is pretty much okay except for taking my time. It’s in and out for me. I love your SHOOT! LOl so appropriate for the letter. :)

  8. I could have guessed it (and I did) but I match you in the shopping personality.

  9. Watch for my account of our trip — mugging was on the agenda (but didn’t happen).

  10. I would have said before I took the quiz that I would have gotten “balanced,” too — and I did. :)

That is a creative way to deal with a mugger.

I can’t believe I forgot to do the Hershey’s basket thing. I was tagged by three people but had several posts scheduled at the time and was going to do it on a day when I didn’t have anything else, but then I forgot. I am glad it raised so much.

    • Indeed it is a creative way. I still wonder if it is true. I can picture you as a balanced shopper. I was glad that it raised so much money. There will always be next year :)

  11. I’m Balanced, too! It’s not every day that I’m accused of that.

  12. Of course, if the guy who wrote that letter is telling the truth he is now guilty of making terrorist threats, wire fraud and theft, all traceable to the account from which he took out that ad.

  13. I hate shopping.

I want a gun (well I have a gun but i would like permission to use it – maybe I’m not in a better mood.)

I’m glad Hershey donated all of that money. We rock.

  14. Love the letter! Good payback for his attempted crime and serves him right.

  15. Sorry Thom that you cannot see the video…
I bring you the song here…. I need to go… I will come back and read this post… need to rush to the hospital…

  16. [you tube="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2E_Sg5t4r8g]

  17. Love the letter! what a hoot, pay back is everything!! I’m Balanced — no surprise there anymore, huh? Hope you’ve had a good day. Ours started off looking miserable then suddenly cleared up for most of the morning and I got some really great pictures! It’s back to crappy now, but I don’t care. Enjoy your evening, Thom!

    Sylvia

  18. What a great letter! Every crime victim’s fantasy. As if the fact that he scared the crap out of him wasn’t enough. lol

Looks like I’m a “Traditional” shopper. Who would have guessed? :P

Have a great week! Mwah! xxoo

    • LOL Isn’t that the truth in more ways than one. I hope you had a great Easter. :) You have a great week yourself my friend. MWAH!!

  19. My shopper result is a little exaggerated but it’s true I prefer to save my money for travels and see the world instead of shopping !

    Your Shopping Stereotype is Economical
Cheap. Thrifty. Frugal. These are all word that you can (and likely do) use to describe your shopping style.
Why pay top dollar when you can get a bargain? You love to save money, and you’re really quite good at it too.

You’re most likely to be found shopping in discount stores, but you also know how to rock the clearance rack at top end places.
People are always complementing you on your finds, and they can’t believe how cheaply you get everything.

  20. I hope Alex’s girlfriend recognises a keeper when she sees one, and marries that guy!

…of course, after this episode I’d be afraid to break up with him…LOL

It’s not that I don’t like shopping but I’m not really the type who goes from shop to shop. :)

Hope you had a great Easter Thom.

  22. Yikes now that pay back for what that guy did. CRAZY! I didn’t know that Hershey’s did that was awesome and it’s great that bloggers posted it too.

    • It certainly was crazy. Too funny I thought, if it’s true I can’t imagine :) Yeah I think that was a good thing bloggers and Hershey’s did as well :)
