Aloha Friday – #129

written by Thom - April 8th, 2010 at 4:17 pm

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday. This is hosted by Kailani at An Island Life. Mahalo my friend for hosting. You can get further instructions by clicking that link or on the picture above. Direct from her blog comes the following:

“In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link on her blog. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!”

So my question is:

When you are in a grocery store do you sample any goodies that are just there like grapes, nuts or candy?

My answer is:

I’ve been known to cop a few in my day.

Have a great Aloha Friday everyone!

Hey, it’s only my opinion.

A Hui Hou

  1. I have eaten a grape to see if they are sweet before I buy them. It’s rare but I have. Yeah, I know it isn’t right.
I have seen people eat handfuls of grapes.
Some put grapes in their buggy and then eat them all the way around the store – that is just way wrong.

    • Yeah I’ve done that as well. Take samples. And you are right it isn’t right but oh well. Now the other people that eat them all…that’s theft if you ask me :)

  2. I guess you’ve never seen the Everybody Loves Raymond episode where the grandpa “samples” at the grocery store. LOL!

To answer the question, I’ve never done that, and I think it’s actually pretty gross–esp. grapes or nuts–things that are out in the open–who knows who else touched them.

speaking of…i saw a dr. oz episode once and they said the #1 item found in those bins w/nuts and trail mix and stuff is fake fingernails!

    LOL!

    • OMG I’ve never thought of that before. I’m never ever going to get nuts or candy from those bins again. Can you imagine a finger nail? YIKES!

  3. Never, well maybe as a small child, I do not recall that far back.

  4. I have been known to taste a grape or something similar when I am buying, but I consider grazing in the produce department a form of stealing.

    • Well sure if that’s all you do but if you are buying and want to sample go for it I say. You can always tell the cashier…oh by the way I ate one of these grapes LOL

  5. I sometimes sample the grapes, before I buy them.

  6. In the past, as a child I did. My mom would give me a grape or two to “try”.

  7. NO not unless the sample lady is there. That’s only on Saturday Heee heee

  8. not always.. just at this grocery store we have right across the street where all things are natural:).. just to taste how the natural feels like:P ha ha
    Aloha!

  9. Nope, never have done that although it is allowed at some places here. I like to pick fruits based on their sweet smell.

  10. yes when i was younger and still the kids often do as well

  11. Thanks to being burned by sour, nasty grapes a few too many times – we usually try a sampler before buying a large bag.

  12. I HATE hate HaTe being at Sam’s Club during the lunch rush when people mow you over for those freebies. Usually those freebies are items with bad dates that Sam’s is trying to get rid of. I just want to get my stuff and get out.

  13. Having worked in a grocery store for 20 years, I know that a lot of people do that. But I also know that grazing effects prices in the long run, so no I never do that. It is really considered to be theft and I have seen people arrested over small things.

    • OH wow for stealing a grape? Well you are right it is theft. Thank goodness I don’t do it all the time and very rarely any more. :)

  14. Well no I really do not. but of course when at sams club I try some samples.
My Fridays Links for you. This time I have two, Introducing a new type of blog “On The Go”. and then AF on my At Home my family blog

  15. I’ve tried things that have been left out for samples, but usually buy grapes from my local green grocer, so i know the quality is guaranteed :-)

  16. I only take samples that are given out as free samples. I never eat unwashed fruit, both because of who else may have touched it and what they may have on their hands (like remnants of their latest sneeze) and what leftover pesticides, etc. they may still have on them. Like Quilly, I consider eating food that isn’t being given out as a free sample as stealing, but I do wish I could try a grape or two before buying the bunch and finding it they’re not very good.

    • You are so right about people touching the food and that. I never thought of that. And yes I agree with you and Q about that :)

  17. Do bag boys count?

  18. I don’t. Around here there are samples most of the time, and that’s when I sometimes taste them (just lazy or uninterested me probably). I think Tesco here is very lenient with customers sampling fruits, especially the small kinds. A small pile of peelings near the display is not an uncommon sight.

  19. of course!!!usually a piece of candy!:)

  20. not unless i’m offered to try them

  21. I just take grapes to test them, because I get “in trouble” if I buy bad grapes. ;)

  22. Eeewww no way, I have to wash things first. I’ve seen too many people pick their noses while driving and digging down their pants — then what are they touching with those fingers?!

    bleugh!!!

    • LOL…digging down their pants…now that could be something fun I would think LOL You mean you don’t like a little booger on your grape? LOL

  23. No I don’t sample the grapes and stuff before I buy. Those things have to be washed before I put them in my mouth!

Plus all the peeps I’ve seen go the loo and not wash. blech!

  24. Not really. I don’t think I get the chance as my kids seem to be all over everything in the store. LOL Now I have seen my kids do it :)
