A Quick Update On My Trip
Well I can’t tell you what a good time I had on my trip. It was excellent. The weather was too cold most of the time but I guess that’s why they make jackets. My family was just the bomb and so were Quilly and Charley. They were the perfect hosts. So good that we stayed an extra day in Friday Harbor. What a blast it was and so many interesting things to see in Friday Harbor and Seattle. And Susan is just a pure delight. Believe me, she is no different than the way you know her from blogging. I feel as if I have known her all my life. We just clicked immediately and our friendship can be no deeper. Her kids are just too fun. The little one is a handful I tell you and me and my booming voice, well I made her cry several times. And I wasn’t trying to. But we got along great and the older two were just wonderful to. We did what we wanted to do and everyone had a great time. I hated to leave all of them in the Pacific Northwest. It was a sad Saturday last week but the memories I will cherish forever. As most of you know I don’t post a lot about the trip in one post. I just use the photos with upcoming posts. Easier that way.
One little update that I have to tell you that most of you will know already because there are two big bucket mouth bloggers among us. And no pointing fingers at me because I am not one of them LOL *me crosses his fingers behind his back and hopes everyone buys that line of BS. Anyhow, I lost all of my photos that I took from my arrival in Seattle through Monday. Don’t ever buy a Cruzer Flash Drive from Scan Disk. They are crappy. This one just burned out. I’ve sent it to a place in Wisconsin to see if they can retrieve the pictures at a cost of $200.00. And if that way doesn’t work they can charge me $800.00 to get them. I’ve decided they are worth $200.00 but not $800.00. So I’m hopeful. We shall see soon I hope. But I have uploaded the pictures that I took after that to My Flickr Account. I’m debating right now as to how long I’m going to stay with Flickr because I have the use of my MobileMe Gallery that I like but there is no place to leave comments. And that doesn’t bother me at all because I get very few comments on my photos I post in Flickr so who cares actually. I’m not to worried about that because the photos I want people to see are always posted here on this blog. So you can check out my MobileMe Gallery if you want.
Now I know I said I wouldn’t be back this week and I’m not going to be much. But I wanted to get something out about the trip and the following two videos that I took with my camera while on vacation gave me something interesting to try. Trust me, I’m not good at doing videos either. Getting in focus is hard to do for me and doing video is no exception to that rule. And in the second video you will see where the color went to black and white, and I don’t know what button I pushed wrong, but it gives the video some spice if you ask me. Anyway I used my iMovie for the first time so don’t expect Academy Award material. But I had a good time putting them together. The first one is of the Eagles that Quilly and Susan have posted about and the second one is about the Locks in Seattle. They are both posted on my YouTube account as well as my MobileMe Gallery that you can get the link by clicking above, so I’m just going to copy and paste the description from there here. Less typing for me. WOOT!!! I hope you enjoy and I’ll be back hopefully next week Monday full time.
Eagles: “Well here’s my first video I have ever done. I know the filming isn’t the best but at least you get the idea about the eagles. They were an awesome site to see. This was taken on San Juan Island, Washington. The eagles were just fed by the sheriff is what someone told us so they basically come out of the woodwork. Whatever gets them out was cool by me because this was some site to see. Ooops it’s not the first? video. I have a couple of others in here.”
Locks: “This is the only other video I did while on vacation. It’s the locks in Seattle. Lake Union is higher than Puget Sound and is fresh water. So when the boats, including tour boats, want to go through, they have to raise and lower the water to get them to the appropriate height. It’s pretty cool to watch and see how it works. I don’t know what I did to get the black and white on the last portion of the video but oh well you will get the drift, if you pardon the pun. The big bridge in the last portion, two sail boats had to wait when they got out of the locks to pass through until the raised the bridge and a train was just going through. It was a cool site the whole thing to see.”
Hey, it’s only my opinion.

Sounds like you had an awesome time! I’ve always wanted to visit the pacific northwest… this gives me even more incentive!

We went walking yesterday and saw a left-behind can of Mountain Dew on a stone wall — F. yelled ‘Just like Thom!’ and I nearly had tears, from missing you. You’re one of a kind! I’ll get my photos uploaded today hopefully. There are a LOT of you.
Love the pics on Flicker, I am so jealous of your eagle shots!! I looks like you all had a great time with the exception of Susan’s daughter since you made her cry (Poor thing) and Ella that was enticed to fall “off the wagon” due to you obvious influence!
I am gonna go check out your mobile me thingie now but I really enjoyed the flicker shots it almost felt like I was there!
Wow the MobileMe puts flicker to shame! I know there is no place for comment but browsing through you shots was so much easier and the option of thumb nail or the larger size without Effort was awesome!

I love the videos Thom – fabulous for your first time. I’ve never done any at all.
This will sound corny, but I’ve always wanted to see locks operate but never lived anywhere there’s much water. Thanks for that.
The MobileMe photos and videos were great! I’ve just purchased my first Mac, a MacBook Pro – I’ve a bit of a learning curve from my standard PC, but it looks like you’re two videos ahead on iMovie
From the pics it looks like a great time was had by one and all. It was really fun to get a look at you, Quilly, and Susan and her clan all in one place! Glad you enjoyed our great Pacific Northwest.
Cheers!
Steven
I’m glad you had such a great time! My brother has a booming voice, too.
I’m with Fergus. I’d have had my fingers in my ears for that second video! I turned down the sound on my comp!
That eagle siting was a joy, wasn’t it? I never saw so many majestic birds in one place.
good to ‘see’ you had a great time with wonderful people.
too bad about the missing photos, hope they manage to restore them (but those on mobile me are quite spectacular)
So glad you had a good time here Thom. I’m looking forward to more posts about your time :0)
Those eagles are fabulous!
it was so good to be with you thom even for such a short time… loved seeing tim, jane and emily too… i will never forget our breakfast at that restaurant that was recommended to you…. but it was part of the fun and i loved every minute of my visit. i think you are so lucky to have see all those eagles…. i have only seen one eagle in my whole life… you did such a good job on the video of the locks. they were so very interesting. thanks for making my visit so much fun and i love you dearly. ma xoxoxoxxoxo
Great videos! I enjoyed watching them very much. What was the song in the first video? I loved it. Have a wonderful day. xoxoxo
Hi Thom,
I’m sorry I haven’t visited your blog recently. I saw Susan linked here so I trusted her judgement. Unfortunately my netbook keeps buffering your Lock link so I’ll have to watch it later.

Ah, I can post comments again, yippieh
Yeah, galleries,… mine allows comments, but I seldom get any (it’s from zenfolio software)
Glad you had such a great time and a great trip!
)
Those eagles are simply amazing!
*Off to check your flickr
ijust had a virtual trip to seattle, thanks to you! your videos here and photos in mobileme gallery showed us you really had a great time… i’m so happy for you! you deserved that break
like your videos!
filled with action and suspense
really!
THAT is so funny to me! The only locks I’ve seen have been on the C&O canal – and there is NEVER a traffic jam!
The eagles are just AMAZING too! I sure hope you are able to get those early pictures back… that really is just the saddest thing. I lost my Mathew’s WHOLE first birthday to a developer (back in the days of film – remember?) who EXPOSED the whole roll! I have never been sO angry in my life! You can’t get a first birthday BACK again!
You know… I don’t know about YOUR camera – but on mine, I have found that I can NOT zoom in video mode. I mean, it physically ALLOWS me to – but any zooming creates blur. I have to decide ahead of time how close in I want to be and just stay there. (or accept blur!) I think this is wear a real video camera comes in handy!
Or maybe even WHERE a real video camera come in handy! ROFL! (engage brain, Melli!)
Your videos were wonderful Thom, glad that you had a wonderful time with your visit to Quilly, the Amoeba and Susan n’ Sylvia. Thanks for sharing Thom.
always fun to read about friendships going great and wonderful travel experiences. Cruzer flash drive hmm mine is collecting dirt in one of those drawers. The videos are great!
Wow, you had a great time ! It’s such a pity that you lost your pictures. I hope they can restore them. Your videos are very nice looks professional, lol !
I always put my pictures in my little notebook and then also on an USB key, because it also happened once to me.
I am so glad that Susan was as she is on her blog and you didn’t have bad surprises as it can happen !
What a great vacation. I don’t know about the Seattle area, but it’s been colder than usual for summer around here.
Wow! Lovely photos of your mobile me! That was a fun vacation!
Hi Thom,
Cool, glad you had a good vacation. Love the videos too. What application did you use for them. Not only are the videos interesting I love the way they move from one clip to another.
Thanks also for visiting my blog, always love your commets. Have a great weekend.
Thank you all for your wonderful comments. It was a blast. I hope to get better at the videos…I think, like my darlin’ said part of it is that I can’t change the zoom on the camera once you get going and it brings me out of focus…sure blame it on the camera LOL Anyway thanks all
Glad you enjoyed
I’ve still never made it THAT far north…sounds like a great time!!
