Thom's Place 4 Well Whatever...

A Goodbye Dinner

written by Thom - January 10th, 2010 at 8:31 pm

It wasn’t the most expensive place. It wasn’t in the most glamorous place. It even rained but Mother Nature held it off for a while and we ended up sitting outside. We were at The Shack having a goodbye dinner with the guests of honor, Quilly and Charley. My friends, Lisa, Dee, Lynette, Kai and Kia all showed up. We got them leis, a cake, had good food, good talk and just enjoyed the time. It was just our little way of saying a fond Aloha to two great people. Hey, it’s only my opinion.

  1. Was certainly a very nice dinner, but I hate to say good bye although I know that those who go away are not out of the world, but still it hurts a little !

  2. I’m so glad that you had a good evening together! That’s definitely the very best way to say good bye — for a little while!

    • Indeed…It’s funny I told both Quilly and Charley when the three of us were walking to our cars that I can’t stay around too long…and we all knew what was meant by that…so I just said goodbye and off we went. Now it’s going to be getting through Tuesday and the last time I see them in Hawai’i :(

  3. Sometimes those casual places are the very best! I imagine it is tough to say goodbye. (And where is Quilly’s lime?)

  4. Looks like an awesome place to me and the food looks delicious!

  5. Looks like a great sendoff. I’m sure everyone on both sides will be missed.

  6. How lovely that you had a farewell dinner!

  7. Thanks for sharing the pictures Thom, it looks like a great place for a party! I’m glad you got to eat outside — but oh, goodbyes kill me. I don’t do them well.

  8. That is such a nice place to have a goodbye dinner. I love dinners with friends but if it’s to say goodbye to them, the goodbye seems to give me indigestion :( Anyway, here’s wishing Quilly and Charley great times at their new place as the times they had with you, Thom.

  9. Aw…sniff, sniff…

The cake was cute, and how lovely to eat right there by the water. I’m glad the rain held off.

With the Internet I know you’ll keep in as much contact as ever, but I know it is not the same as having them right there. Good-byes are no fun.

    • What’s funny about all of this is that’s the way Barbara that we stay in contact most of the time. It’s not like much is going to change but it’s just they wont physically be here any longer :(

  10. But why am *I* sad? I almost feel like she’s leaving me too!

It’ll be better when she’s back online in her new digs, being the same Quilly (only wearing warmer clothing).

Thom – more reasons to travel!

    • You got that right. I will be going to Seattle the end of the month so I will see them again and yes, when all the move is done it wont be much different :)

  11. I saw these yesterday on flicker when I was looking at the other pics you posted of your goodbye adventures. I agree with Susan I don’t do Goodbyes well which might be why most of my closest friends are online. You’ll just have to come to our coastline and visit her sweets, maybe when you visit your family you could take a long vaca and visit her too?

    • Well we hope to take the ferry over to Friday Harbor. We will just have to see what goes on. Such a touching point that some of your closest friends are on line. I think many of us have that. I’ll have to come visit Southern California as well :) xoxox

  12. i hate goodbyes and i sympathise with you even if not much will change… but it’s nice you savoured these moments

  13. The place doesn’t matter. It could be a hole in the wall, but being surrounded by those you care about is what really matters.

I’ve never been to that Shack. Nice views!

  14. What a nice thing Thom that you did, It was good that you could get together for a “See Ya Later” Dinner. Quilly and Charley are only across the Pacific, and from what I hear That Wee Irish Lass by the name of Susan has plans for all of us getting together in Vulcan this Summer. It is only Rumor, but I did read something to that extent.

    • Thanks Bill. I appreciate it. Yeah it would be pretty good to have a meet up like that. I understand around the 15th of June. It would be awesome :)

  15. what a great place to celebrate with your friends . i cant get over how you are all dressed. so springy and NO COATS… it has been cold, damp and foggy here in NV for days… i hope quilly and charlie will be very happy in seattle.. i loved the locale where the shack is. great pictures thom !!!! so aloha to your dear friends and i hope i have the pleasure of meeting them the end of january…. xoxoxoxxo

    • LOL…well we almost had to get our jackets. It started off to be a bit chilly out and you remember when you came over here what I’m talking about. Thanks for this ma. I appreciate it :)

  16. Ohhhhhh… you went and made me CRY again! HOW can this move be hard on me when I am THOUSANDS of miles away??? It wouldn’t be if YOU would quit makin’ me cry…

  17. That looks like a really nice place for the goodbye dinner. Outside and a great view.
It’s late now but I’m going to check out your other pictures tomorrow.

    See ya Thom!

  18. Looks like a really nice restaurant…I love restaurants right on the water like that.

Sorry I have been such a slacker about reading your blog…you need an email subscription option to kick me in the butt lol

    • I like them as well. There is a subscribe. It’s under Join the Fun You can either subscribe to the RSS Feeds or the Coimments and there’s even an email one. You click on that subscribe and the top one in the second column says email…Click on that and there ya go :)
